Working out the best plan for New Year is a task that we both love and loathe. Do you book out the most extra house you can find and get the squad together, escape to the middle of nowhere with your bestie or head to the city for a night to remember (or not…)? The options are endless, but as your time is not, these are the places we think you need to experience at least once. Think of it as a New Year’s bucket list if you will…
This one’s for the Instagrammers as Edinburgh is quite possibly one of the most photogenic cities EVER, no matter when you visit. But, Hogmanay in Scotland is another level of spectacular; whether you visit Mark Ronson’s Hogmanay in the Gardens, the Street Party where you’ll never feel overdressed or a Scottish classic of a Ceilidh under the Castle, it’s THE place to be for NYE. If you’re here for a good time not a long time, Hogmanay will make your trip a memorable one!

If you’re in search of something that is more ‘life in the slow lane’ then the Lakes could be an ideal option. It’s one of those places that is ridiculously magical in the winter, with incredible walks past the frozen waters (be sure to pack the thermals) and plenty of places to wine and dine your way to next year. That’s not to mention the gorgeous cottages, equipped with cosy wood burners where you could never feel guilty for having a duvet day… or duvet weekend!

The adventure capital of the UK may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think celebration but hear us out. From wild swimming (for those brave enough) to stargazing and the most dramatic yet picturesque New Year’s Day walks you can imagine, there is plenty to keep the thrill-seekers entertained. We’d recommend spending the eve at Zip World getting your adrenaline fix, then wrap up, fill up a flask and head out to watch the simplicity of the stars for a celebration of natural beauty.

If you want to eat your way into 2020, then Yorkshire is the place to do it. Home to some of our favourite treats: tea, Yorkshire puddings, cheese etc, as well as plenty of fine dining options, why not spend the last moments of 2019 doing something that you truly love? Book yourselves into a black-tie gala dinner, head to the Racecourse’s major party, pick one of the many venues that will be singing with live music or simply catch a bite to eat and head home to watch the chaos unveil on TV from the comfort of your holiday home – we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to duck out this year!

With Bideford voted as one of the best places to be for New Year numerous times, and the local events like the New Year’s Day Swim at Saunton beach, North Devon covers the whole spectrum of things to do for New Year. Watch the fireworks in Barnstaple and head to the local nightclub, Fever, dance the night away in Bideford to live music on the street, eat your heart out on a gourmet set dinner at one of the much-loved local restaurants or spend the night wrapped up in 100 layers by the sea with a crackling fire. St Ives
St Ives is the place to be for those who want to go all-out on a fancy dress costume this year. It’s one of the most famous and most eclectic New Year's Eve fancy dress parties in the country, which all started out with a little local rivalry between the pubs and is now one of the busiest events of the year. The festivities start to liven up from around 5pm with a parade, then most locals head off on a pub crawl until midnight. Fireworks light up the harbour when the clock strikes 12 and don’t be surprised if you see people jumping in for the first wild swim of the year early doors!
