Take time out for two in this wonderful weatherboard house in the grounds of the owners’ property. Set in a slightly elevated position, the views down over Bewl Water reservoir are simply breathtaking, while inside, the spec of this holiday home is really high-end. It makes for an idyllic bolthole for any couple who want to get away from it all. Bewl Water is at the bottom of the garden, so why not join the 13-mile walking trail around the reservoir spotting flora and fauna as you go? Just 7.5 miles away is Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest which offers miles of trails through the ancient pines. National Trust properties abound in this part of the world too: visit Vita Sackville-West’s famous gardens at Sissinghurst (15 miles); 14th-century moated Bodiam Castle (12 miles); and the Victorian mansion and castle ruins set in parkland at Scotney Castle (8.5 miles). Wadhurst and Ticehurst are two attractive towns around 4 miles away offering local independent craft and vintage stores plus pitstops for refreshment. Charming Royal Tunbridge Wells is 11 miles north, with shopping and sights such as the Georgian colonnaded area of The Pantiles.
The ground-floor is almost entirely open-plan and the space works wonderfully with a slight hall area by the entrance before you get into the main accommodation. There’s a wall between the kitchen area and this entrance too. Exposed wood beams in the ceiling complement the oak flooring throughout this space, with rustic touches of wood and brick. Comfortable seating around the wood burner invites you to linger in the lounge area on cooler days, sharing the same sweeping views over Bewl Water as the dining area with its rustic wood table and chairs for four. The modern kitchen with all mod cons will amply meet any self-catering needs. Upstairs on the first floor, you’ll find a generous king-size bedroom with a vaulted ceiling exposing some of the timber frame and French doors to a Juliette balcony offering wonderful views. The en-suite bathroom has a free-standing bath for those indulgent holiday soaks, attractive tiled floor and Velux window for even more light.
Two sets of French doors open from the living accommodation onto a private terraced area with furniture. Guests also have full use of the owners’ extensive garden and BBQ, with another lower, tiered area that is also furnished. The lawned and planted garden of the owners then slops down to the water’s edge. And beyond that lies the glorious Bewl Water.
