For couples who love to explore on foot, there are walks from the doorstep and the Northumberland National Park offers stunning vistas, particularly from the summit of Cheviot (19 miles) with views to the Lake District on a clear day. Stroll along the Northumberland shoreline, at Bamburgh and Seahouses and experience the water sports at Beadnell Bay.

Make your way through the front door of this cosy cottage, where you’ll find a wide hallway furnished with hooks for hanging up walking coats and scarves, and a useful downstairs WC. Head through to the welcoming lounge and unwind with a cup of tea by the glow of the wood burner. This is the ideal spot for movie nights snuggling up on the sofas. The countryside-themed kitchen/diner provides all the appliances you’ll need to cook up a storm and a large table where you can sit and chat through the day’s highlights over homemade dinners. There is also a bench seat at the rear of the cottage, in the stable yard where you can watch the horses coming and going. Of course, dogs must be kept on a lead and under control in the stable yard. There is off-road, private parking for two cars.
