Set in the heart of Soudley, a traditional village within the Forest of Dean, this converted church has been sympathetically restored, retaining many original features that blend beautifully with the practicalities of modern-day living, offering space for up to eight guests and one four-legged friend. The village enjoys a peaceful location surrounded by ancient woodlands and is perfect for both walkers and cyclists with access to the forest trails from the church. There is plenty to see and do for all tastes, Cannop Cycle Centre for mountain biking and the family cycle trail, for trail runners the Adidas Trail at Mallards Pike, the sculpture trail and Dean Heritage Museum, plus nature reserves, all within 5 miles. Other attractions include the River Wye for canoeing, wild swimming, and paddle boarding, Clearwell Caves, Perry Grove railway, Puzzlewood, Go Ape, and Hopewell Colliery, all within 10 miles of the cottage.
The church is set in the heart of a peaceful mining village, within its own grounds, and offers a friendly welcome to all that come to stay. Having completed a sympathetic renovation, finishing in 2024, the church now offers a contemporary space for guests to enjoy. The original wooden door invites you into the entrance hall that’s wooden panelled and finished with light colours, perfect for coats and boots, before you step into the main body of the church. The area also includes a ground floor shower room with WC with external access, and a utility room with storage and washing machine. A ground-floor bunk bedroom with wooden shutter windows is perfect for children. The open-plan living space has been well configured and is great for relaxing with friends, enjoying natural light from the original windows, a cosy seating area with a Smart TV and wood burner for relaxing in the evenings. At dinnertime, a circular table is a beautiful space where you can gather round. For the chef amongst you, a well-equipped kitchen offers everything you may need for preparing meals and packed lunches for a day out and about. The altar space makes a great games area or snug, with a high ceiling and original stained-glass windows. The first floor offers guests the choice of three bedrooms, a king-size room with en-suite shower and WC, a second king-size room, and a twin room. Completing the property, just off the spacious landing area is the family bathroom with shower over bath and WC.
The gardens surround the church, with a secluded area to the rear with a table, chairs, and a BBQ. There is also a utility area with hard standing that’s great for cleaning bikes and dogs, along with secure storage for bikes.
