This superbly appointed, traditionally built Lakeland miner's cottage has been recently sympathetically and comprehensively renovated. It sits near the gable-end of a terrace of rural stone-built cottages dating from the mid-1800s and is situated in a delightfully secluded wooded enclave. Its garden has splendid views out over Ullswater and the cottage is set back in an elevated position just half a mile from the road running alongside the lake. The property occupies a truly idyllic location, above Glencoyne Valley, with the slopes of Sheffield Pike behind, leading up to Helvellyn. The cottage is approached along an unmade woodland track and its garden is often visited by an abundance of wildlife, including red squirrels, in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You enter the property through a small porch giving onto the open-plan pitch-pine beamed kitchen/living room. The living area is comfortably furnished with a small sofa drawn facing onto an impressive double-doored wood burner. The kitchen area is served by an AGA stove and equipped with a Belfast sink, fridge, dishwasher, and beech-wood and butcher's block work surfaces. A small traditional dining table separates the kitchen and living area. The room is well lit, with wall-mounted and ceiling lighting. A short staircase leads to a well-furnished bedroom with a double bed and built in wardrobes. The wainscoted bathroom is entered directly from the bedroom and is equipped with a traditional roll-top bath, hand-held shower, basin, WC and heated towel radiator. The limed-oak floors of the bedroom and bathroom are served by underfloor heating.

Outside, the property boasts a shared lawned area looking over mature apple and thorn trees and across the valley. The lawn is bound on one side by mature mixed hedging and on the other is open to views of the lake The garden offers an enviable area in which to sit and enjoy the lake views, and is equipped with a garden bench and table for this purpose. The large local slate gravelled area offers excellent parking and a lovely outlook over the lake.

This is a very cosy, quickly little cottage and is well appointed. The location is lovely and the red squirrels playing in the garden together with the abundant bird life made our holiday special. Using the Aga to cook was great and I now want one at home. The bed linen was beautifully laundered and good quality. Overall we had a lovely stay.
