This beautifully restored barn is situated along a quiet country lane in rolling countryside - a mile from the Welsh border village of Grosmont, described by the Welsh writer Jan Morris as ‘The most beautiful village in Britain’ with its castle, friendly pub and quaint village store. The area is perfect for walkers and cyclists of all abilities, offering easy access to the Brecon Beacons for adventurous hiking and the Wye Valley for canoeing, cycling and more gentle walking. The barn is only eight miles from the foodie town of Abergavenny with its monthly farmers' market held on the last Thursday of the month, and the renowned Food Festival every September. The area boasts a wealth of excellent restaurants and country pubs, too numerous to mention. Heading towards the Brecon Beacons is the pretty town of Crickhowell, whilst on the England/Wales border about half hours’ drive away is the historic town of Monmouth. Take a drive up towards Llanthony Abbey through the Black Mountains and on to Hay-on-Wye with its eclectic range of book shops and the international Literary Festival every May. Hereford, home of Mappa Mundi and the Chained Library is 23 miles away. The Wye Valley is almost littered with Norman Castles - Grosmont Castle is just a stroll away. Part of a famous trio, Skenfrith and White Castle are well worth a visit too, White Castle for its impressive remaining turrets, Skenfrith for its proximity to the River Monnow and good country pub which could be a welcome respite if you choose to complete the three castles walk!  Raglan Castle, with a cafe on site and occasional re-enactments, is a good spot for a picnic. There is lots of family fun available, from pony trekking to rope climbing at Go Ape, the Big Pit National Coal Museum in Blaenavon and a multitude of castles to explore.

This traditional detached stone barn is warm and welcoming, with large, glazed doors leading you into the light and spacious sitting room. The exposed barn walls and travertine floor complement the contemporary style of furnishing.  Centrally heated throughout with underfloor heating downstairs, the wood burner provides the perfect backdrop for a cosy evening catching up with friends or watching the TV. A selection of books and DVDs are available for guests in the lounge - perfect for those rainy days. Across the hall lies the kitchen with a lovely oak table for meals and stable doors leading onto a private patio area, for alfresco dining or drinks. The well-equipped kitchen includes electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The ground floor also has a utility room with washing machine and a shower room with WC.Upstairs the spacious master bedroom is the perfect place to wind down, with a king-size bed, chaise longue and sofa. Across the hall is a further double room and a bunk bedroom. All the bedrooms have oak floors, beautiful beams and stunning views across the rolling Monmouthshire countryside. Soak up the views over the Welsh hills as you lie back in the bath, the centre piece of the lovely family bathroom.

Outside, as well as the private, enclosed courtyard with table, chairs and charcoal BBQ, there is a lawn with table and chairs whilst children will enjoy exploring the owners' orchard which is set in 10 acres of the owners' land. Next door to the barn in the boiler room there is a tumble dryer, butler’s sink for washing muddy boots and space for bicycle storage and walking kit. There is parking for two cars close to the barn entrance.

A well appointed and comfortable barn conversion in an ideal and quiet location with superb scenery and views. Well placed for places of interest to visit and/or walk. Local pub well worth a visit for good quality food at a reasonable price.

We are just back from a wonderful stay in Wales. The barn is in a beautiful location in lovely grounds. Our children enjoyed playing in the gardens and brook. The barn has everything you need, the warm floors and log burner were much appreciated in the cold weather. We did lots of walks from the barn and enjoyed Abergavenny.
